2019 FIRST PLACE WIN AT WORLD

"I was inspired to create this piece after a wonderful fall day in the woods. Later that night, we sat around a campfire listening to three barred owls exchange calls. From those experiences I began to visualize a composition with a barred owl resting atop a sumac “ball of flame"."

For the past several months I've been concentrating on carving and documenting a life-size pheasant for a feature article in an upcoming issue. In the article I'll show photos of each stage, outline the process and share tips. I'm excited to share with readers!

ORIGINAL DRAWINGS
Just as deeply-seated in realism as the carvings, drawings are an equal passion. No medium captures the ebb and flow of the texture of fur like drawing.
-
Whether the medium is graphite or charcoal, the cascading or radiating textures are unique to each subject.
-
The timeless, minimalist compositions place the focus on the detail and fit with any home interior.
-
The eyes are the windows to emotion and attitude. The multiple reflections, the depth and the shapes are carefully planned.
-
The materials used are the highest grade. From the archival, acid-free paper to the graphite or charcoal. Each piece is protected with a non-yellowing, high-grade final fixative.

CUSTOM CARVINGS
Exceeding Expectations
When I get a request to create a custom piece, my goal is to exceed expectations. The custom experience includes:
-
an original drawing of the composition for approval
-
a carving with the same level of detail as a competition piece
-
progress updates via email
-
a limited-edition, leather bound book containing progress photos specific to their piece, inscribed and signed
The drawing, the book and the carving are shipped via a company that specializes in shipping artwork only. I whole-heartedly believe the experience of a custom piece should be a pleasure from start to finish.
